Apple Intelligence is the AI I've been waiting for

Things I learned on the Week of June 3rd

Articles I read

  • While I want this newsletter to focus on things I learned each week, I'm sharing articles that are a bit different from that this time. As someone who is constantly improving my work space, tools and techniques, I have gotten frustrated with how Android and iOS focus on apps and not on projects. "When you wake up each morning, do you think: what apps do I want to use? Or do you wonder instead: what goals do I want to achieve?"

That's a quote from this article that I stumbled upon. It's not something I learned, but rather, something I've been thinking about a lot and someone else already wrote about it, so I don't have to. I agree with all the thoughts in this article and have already begun designing the UX (User Experience) for my own mobile operating system that I plan to build in future.

  • Iwájú has been out for 3 months now, and I've watched a ton of reviews on YouTube and on social media, but there's something different about reading a review. Thoughts are just articulated in a much more poignant way in the written format. Here are the two best reviews I've read. The first is by Brain Wilson, one of the best animators in Nigeria, and someone I know personally. The second review is by Teambooktu, a Nigerian blog for the creative arts. While both reviews are spoiler free, I feel like Teambooktu's review gives a lot of details about the characters and the general plot, so if you haven't watched Iwájú yet and want to go in completely blind, perhaps bookmark their review for later.

Media I consumed

  • Just last week, I wrote about the new AI features announced by Google and OpenAI (owned by Microsoft) that allow people to speak to the computer as if they were speaking to a person. I knew it wouldn’t be long before Apple joined the fray, and I knew there'd be something unique about their implementation. Well, Apple announced Apple Intelligence, and there are two big unique things about it. First, the AI is on-device, meaning it is resident in your phone, tablet or desktop, and you don't need an internet connection for it to work. Secondly, it is heavily privacy-focused so that it won't send your data to any remote servers for processing unless you explicitly tell it to. And even then, it will only send to servers whose code is public and verified by a third party to do nothing suspicious with your data. You can get the details from these 5-minute videos Apple released, or watch this detailed analysis by the biggest tech YouTuber in the world.

Spiritual Lessons

Just like the best cook in the world cannot cook your food without heat, God can be willing but not able to do anything about your situation if you don't let Him. God needs your faith to be able to do things on earth because He gave man dominion on the earth. We have a certain degree of sovereignty, because God designed us after Himself. That means that within the jurisdiction of your sovereignty, you can surprise God or impress Him, and there are many examples in the Bible of both. You can also invite Him into a situation or restrict Him from taking action.

Mark 6:5-6 "5 And because of their unbelief, he couldn’t do any miracles among them except to place his hands on a few sick people and heal them. 6 And he was amazed at their unbelief."

This is why Jesus always did a lot of teaching before He started healing. The faith of the recipient is important.
