Things I learned this week
For the past 2 and a half years, since September 2021, I’ve been posting one-minute videos every other day on all my social platforms. In these videos, I share tools and techniques I’ve learned over the years to help people be more efficient at work and in their professional lives. I love to teach, I love to share my experience and I really hate to see people do things inefficiently when I know there are much better ways they could be doing those things.
I deliberately limited my content to one-minute videos because they don’t take too long to create, so it’s not a massive time sink for me. I also don’t post them with any regularity, so that I have the freedom to go for weeks without posting at times when I can’t afford the time. After all, I want to share knowledge, not give myself a new job that no one is paying me for.
I recently had a realization that there was a way I could share knowledge on a regular basis and not force myself to be beholden to a tight schedule. I learn something every week. If I just share what I have learned each week without having to package it into a lesson, then it is feasible to keep up with a weekly output. I literally just have to put links to the content that I learned, and perhaps type in brief summaries, which would take much less time than shooting and editing one-minute videos. I’m already tired of typing so watch the video in this post for more details.
I don’t want to spend my weekends collating the information for this newsletter, so I will send out my newsletters on Tuesdays. Every Tuesday, people will get an email containing my learnings from the previous week. This allows me to remain in full control of my time with no tight deadlines, while sharing knowledge on a regular basis. Of course, I’ll continue to make my Just a Minute Videos. You can subscribe to my YouTube Shorts channel for those. I plan to keep my posts short so that people will actually read them. Besides, the time and effort required to make long posts regularly are things I wouldn’t expend if I wasn’t being paid to do so. I hope you enjoy this newsletter!
